Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Ratings

Current Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) ratings for state-chartered bank and trust companies and savings banks are shown in the following table. Please note that uninsured banks do not need to comply with community reinvestment laws. Visit our banks in Connecticut page for institution addresses, telephone numbers and links to websites.

Institutions are rated on the following scale:

O = Outstanding
S = Satisfactory
NI = Needs to Improve
SN = Substantial Non-compliance

The Connecticut Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) requires the commissioner to assess each bank's record of meeting the credit needs of its local communities, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, consistent with the safe and sound operation of the institution. In addition to being examined by the Department of Banking for compliance with the Connecticut CRA, most Connecticut chartered banks are also examined for compliance with the Federal CRA by their appropriate federal regulator. CRA ratings and Public Evaluations issued by the federal regulators may be obtained on the FFIEC website. CRA ratings for federally-chartered institutions may also be found at the above link.

CRA questions may be directed via email to Matthew Saunig, Assistant Director, Financial Institutions Division.
